Motivatie clichés: hechten mannen meer belang aan succes dan vrouwen? Zoeken oudere werknemers vooral naar standvastigheid?
Er bestaan wel wat clichés wanneer we over motivatie en drijfveren spreken: één daarvan is dat de prestaties en drijfveren van mannen en vrouwen beïnvloed zouden worden door genderstereotypes. Mannen zouden vooral belang hechten aan succes, autonomie en prestaties, waardoor ze meestal zouden worden gemotiveerd door verloning, doorgroeimogelijkheden en uitdagingen. Maar hoe zit het echt?

Today we have a plethora of advice and information at the push of a button, which enables us to choose our goals carefully and at any moment we want. Not to mention how easy it is nowadays to send or post news of our successes online anywhere and anytime, ensuring that we are rewarded instantaneously with praise and approval. Even in the professional world achievements are no longer only rewarded during the end of year appraisal.

Vrouwelijke “millennial” doorbreekt als eerste glazen plafond
Recent onderzoek van Hudson toont aan dat vrouwen uit generatie Y sneller de top bereiken dan hun mannelijke collega’s Vrouwen uit generatie Y, ook wel “millennials” genoemd, bevinden zich in de beste positie om als eersten de traditionele loopbaanbelemmeringen (het zogenaamde 'glazen plafond') te doorbreken. Dit blijkt uit nieuw onderzoek van Hudson. Het betreft vrouwen in de leeftijdsgroep van twintig tot begin dertig. Twee jaar geleden al, stelde commissaris van Justitie van de Europese Unie Viviane Reding maatregelen voor die moesten zorgen dat de raden van bestuur van beursgenoteerde bedrijven uit tenminste 40 procent vrouwelijke bestuurdersleden zouden gaan bestaan. Het onderzoek van Hudson toont nu aan dat de vrouwen uit generatie Y de beste competenties bezitten om die leidinggevende posities te bekleden.

Are Emerging Leaders in Europe ready for the future?
In a rapidly changing environment filled with the complex modern challenges of the ‘New Normal’ economic climate, it is now more important than ever for organisations to first identify and then develop the people who possess the right leadership potential to guide the organisation through periods of change, uncertainty and ambiguity. Hudson’s Global Research and Development Centre recently conducted a study on this topic. The key question that we set out to answer was: ‘For which key attitudes do emerging leaders have opportunities to evolve further in order to become the senior or C-level leaders of the future?’ To answer this question, the personality characteristics of more than 400 emerging leaders in Europe were analysed. Their results were then compared with those of over 600 C-level leaders in Europe and of over 150 000 people from the global population. Remote testing – or unproctored internet-based testing (UIT) – not only helps streamline assessment processes in terms of both efficiency and accessibility, it also creates a positive candidate experience. Before opting for a remote solution, people often wonder how the integrity of a test can be guaranteed or whether it will be necessary for them to put a ‘re test’ procedure in place. ITC guidelines on the security of tests have just been published, which shows that this aspect is a common concern.
